
Members of the Community Policing Unit are available upon request give presentations on Bicycle Safety. This presentation stresses the importance of bicycle maintenance, rules of the road, traffic laws and the bicycle helmet laws. Also covered is basic safety techniques.
To ride a bicycle on the roadways and streets of Dover, a bicycle must be properly registered with the police department. At only .25 cents, the fee is minimal and only covers the cost of the registration sticker. The benefits of properly registering a bicycle include theft deterrence, and owner identification in the event a bicycle is turned in to the police. The following are required to register your bicycle with the Dover Police:

| Serial # or other identifying number must be imprinted or engraved somewhere on the bicycle (tools for this are available at Dover Police) | |
| A horn or bell must be mounted on the bicycle | |
| A light must be mounted on bicycle (if used at night) | |
| Owner must provide proof of ownership or purchase | |
| Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian |
