| The Marine Patrol Section of the Dover Police Department is equipped with an 18 foot Boston Whaler police boat. The unit is responsible for patrolling Silver Lake, a large man-made lake within the city's jurisdiction, to ensure safe boating practices and compliance with boating laws and permit regulations. The officers assigned to this section are trained in marine law and water safety. Only officers who are able to master boat handling and can demonstrate proper procedures for water rescue are permitted to join the unit. There are five officers assigned to this section on a part time basis, and they patrol at various times throughout the boating season. |
