The Criminal Investigation Unit is responsible for investigating all major crimes such as homicide, rape, robbery, burglary, arson, and kidnapping. Additionally, the unit investigates other crimes that require specialized training or expertise, such as drug violations, vice crimes, forgery and fraud investigations, and juvenile crimes. 

The unit also handles all evidence collection pawn shop investigations, prepares and executes search warrants, conducts background investigations on applicants, handle fugitive cases and extradition, and performs intelligence/surveillance activities.
