Community Policing Unit

The Community Policing Section, part of the Special Enforcement Unit has the unique assignment of patrolling targeted areas of the City with a goal of reducing crime and promoting safer communities. Officers assigned to this unit provide patrol in marked vehicles, on bicycle and on foot. This makes them more accessible to the citizens of the areas where they are assigned.  Community Policing Unit is the direct link between the community and the Dover Police Department.  This section is responsible for the Crime Prevention and Community Services functions and places emphasis in heavy community involvement to accomplish problem solving.  The officers of this unit have organized neighborhood watches, crime prevention presentations, and provide personal safety seminars.  Selection to Community Policing is very competitive since it provides a special opportunity for officers to more closely interact with the citizens of our community.  In addition the Community Policing Unit handles all of the Megan's Law "Sex Offender" complaints and notifications.
